My teaching philosophy is to inspire a deep and lasting interest in my students in the intellectual challenges of philosophy. I aim to develop the students’ skills in every interaction, such as critical thinking, argumentative rigor, self-reflection, and cultural orientation. I firmly believe in the Humboldtian unity of research and teaching. Therefore, my teaching is informed by my research on Classical German Philosophy, phenomenology, and philosophy of mind. I use historical and contemporary philosophical texts supplemented by podcasts, talks, and films.
With my teaching style, I strive to be motivating and supportive. I build on a strong interest in each student’s development. To feed the interest and keep concentration high, I integrate shorter phases of different teaching methods, such as lecturing, group work, student presentations, brief writing and reflection assignments, and online components.
I have designed and taught 35 courses at the Bachelor’s and Master’s levels in full responsibility at Marquette, Heidelberg, and Bamberg universities. Since 2021, I hold the Certificate for Teaching in Higher Education of the Bavarian Universities at the basic and advanced levels. Philosophy students and students in various subjects such as psychology, medicine, literature, physics, and mathematics have attended my courses.
