Counseling

Systemic and Philosophical Counseling

Socrates described philosophical discussion as maieutics — the art of midwifery. The idea is that the counselor does not lecture or prescribe, but helps others bring forth their own new ideas and possibilities. This image connects naturally with my interest in autonomy: being an intelligent stepping stone for the self-development and flourishing of others is central to my counseling work.

I offer counseling for individuals, couples, and families, both in person and online.

Qualifications

I am a certified systemic consultant and family counselor, certified by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Systemische Therapie, Beratung und Familientherapie (DGSF), trained at the Würzburger Institut für systemisches Denken und Handeln.

My counseling is further informed by my academic work in philosophy, particularly in the areas of autonomy, trust, and the conditions of human flourishing. I have published on autonomy in mental illness, trust in psychotherapy, and the philosophical foundations of systemic approaches.

Prior to my academic career, I worked as a nursing assistant in psychiatric residential homes at the v. Bodelschwingh Foundation Bethel, which gave me formative experience relevant to counseling practice.

What I Offer

Systemic counseling works with the relational and contextual dimensions of human experience. Rather than focusing on individual pathology, it looks at patterns, relationships, and the social contexts that shape our lives. In this framework, change becomes possible by exploring new perspectives, resources, and possibilities together.

I offer counseling in the following areas:

  • Life transitions and orientation
  • Relationship and family issues
  • Questions of meaning, autonomy, and self-determination
  • Professional and vocational challenges
  • Philosophical life counseling for individuals seeking structured reflection
